Root canal therapy is a treatment done when decay has reached the nerve space of the tooth and thereby causing infection of the root.  A tooth fracture exposing the nerve space is another way a tooth needs a root canal. Treatment consist of cleaning and filling the root canal space. Root canals restores function to the tooth and eliminates any abscess , infection,  and pain to the tooth.  It prevents the tooth from being extracted and prevent a costly replacement.
