Fillings repair teeth that have small to medium size cavities or fractures.  There are two types of fillings: Composites which are cosmetic fillings and Amalgams, which are silver metal fillings. Composites or tooth colored fillings can closely match the color of the tooth, giving it a natural appearance.  Both have advantages and disadvantages that can be discussed with the dentist to have the best treatment outcome. As with all dental restorations, fillings have to be replaced after a certain amount of time due to normal wear and tear.
